Mayor Keith Wilson, who took office in January, announced the search Monday, emphasizing the critical role this appointment will play in Portland's future. "Our city administrator will set the tone for Portland," Wilson said. "They will inspire and guide city staff, deliver high-quality services that Portlanders can trust, and help us solve our biggest challenges."
The position offers a salary range of $284,000 to $393,000. Applications will be accepted through September 25, with multiple interview rounds involving city leaders, staff, and community partners. Wilson anticipates selecting a candidate this fall, with council confirmation and a start date in late 2025 or early 2026.
The successful candidate will replace Michael Jordan, who plans to retire at year's end after steering the city through its governmental transition. Jordan focused on restructuring city operations, delivering the first budget under the new system, and establishing new working models with the expanded city council.
"This search represents Portland's commitment to professional, effective city management under our new governmental structure," Wilson added.
